Hin Daeng Liveaboard

Hin Daeng is not as famous diving destination as the Similans are, but it sure is magnificent and very different, offering divers another good liveaboard trip. There are only a few boats regularly going to Hin Daeng, which means it won't get so crowded underwater.

The distant Hin Daeng lies far south from Phuket, and on the route we will visit Phi Phi's best dive sites and the gracious islands of Koh Haa. In our final destination a Red Rock breaks the surface and underneath awaits two huge pinnacles with pristine coral, pretty walls and numerous fish from small to very large.

This safari trip starts in the evening around 18:00 (6 PM) from Phuket. On the boat first we will check your cabins and equipment to make sure we are good to go. Then we head off with a welcoming speech and a boat briefing. Dinner will be served but no diving on the first evening. In the following days we dive a lot and in between we feast and relax.

The two big pinnacles, red coral colored Hin Daeng and purple coral painted Hin Muang, are pretty much on same level as Similan's famous Richelieu Rock when it comes down to log book memories. Our best day here had 3 big Manta rays gliding over us for two dives, a Whale shark circling around the last dive and a pod of dolphins waving us goodbye as we left. But it's not always all about the big stuff, sometimes they are there, sometimes not. Barracudas, trevally, tunas, morays, marble groupers, turtles, cuttlefish and hundreds of fusiliers are always around though.

Depth: 10 - 60 meters

Visibility: 20 - 30 meters

An island group of five islands, Koh Haa is made of limestone and offers some of the world's easiest beginner level cavern diving. The Koh Haa Cathedral we also have pictured on this page is a big cavern with a ventilated air pocket. One can surface inside the cavern and breath the air. Another site to remember is the Chimney where you dive in an upwards swim through tunnel. Turtles and huge morays are often seen here with dozens of crocodile needlefish patrolling near the surface. Lobsters are common also but fishing is not allowed.

Depth: 5 - 25 meters

Visibility: 20 -30 meters

On the route we will visit Phi Phi and it's nearby sites. Here there is a chance to see blacktip reef sharks at Palong Wall, leopard sharks at Hin Bida and turtles, octopus and nudibranch almost on every site. Depending on the wind we might also stop at the King Cruiser and Kled Gaeow wrecks or macro heaven Koh Doc Mai. The islands are also incredible sights by themselves, as the tallest rock wall of Phi Phi climbs over 100 meters straight up out of the water!

Depth: 5 - 30 meters

Visibility: 10 - 20 meters

There is a fairly new wreck close to Phi Phi, an old navy ship the Kled Gaeow. This 50 meters long wreck is in one piece and offers exciting penetration. Another wreck we usually visit is the more than 80 meters long ferry King Cruiser that sunk in 1997 in an accident where nobody got hurt. Now this massive catamaran is full of coral and life. Both wrecks have become shelters to thousands of snappers and barracudas.

Depth: 15 - 30 meters

Visibility: 10 - 20 meters
